iPhoto 6: does it do lossless jpeg rotation?

with 2 comments

I spent over an hour searching the net for the answer to this question, but all I found were people asking it. Anybody know? Or even how could I tell? Should the file size be exactly the same?

  1. This KB article at apple.com suggests it might in fact lossless:

    But this thread suggests otherwise:

Why on earth doesn’t iPhoto just update the orientation in the EXIF data for rotated photos?

  2. EXIF data isn’t honored by many apps I want to use to display pictures. Chief among them is my TiVo. There is a method for really rotating JPEG images which involves matrix math rotations for pictures which are a multiple of 8-bytes wide and high. Aperture does this, I believe.
